These products are available on Sun-4 (Sparc), Silicon Graphics, and Hewlett Packard systems running Unix. They are also available on a 386+ PC with at least 8MB of available memory and a math coprocessor.

These are stand-alone programs which do not require any CAD software to operate. Part databases are translated to STL, CFL, WRL, or STH files. No need to tie up a CAD license or workstation to do STL generation.

C4toSTL	Translates Computervision CADDS 4x/5 explicit or parametric parts. Entities: 5pt. String, Surfaces, Solids.
PDtoSTL	Translates Computervision Personal Designer parts. Supported Surfaces: (Trimmed) Nurb, Spole, Face.
VDto STL	Translates VDAFS text files. Supported Surfaces: Surface, Bounded Surface (face).
IGtoSTL	Translates IGES text files. Supported Surfaces: 5pt. Copious Data most Tcyls, Rsurfs, Srevs, Spline (114) Surface, Nurb (128) Surface degree <=23, Bounded Planes (108), Trimmed Surfaces (143,144) with parametric trim boundaries. Works with Surface and/or Solid models from many different systems including Alias, Anvil, Aries, AutoDesk, AutoSurf, Autotrol, Calma, Camax, Cimlinc, Duct, Euclid, CadKey FastSurf, Ford PDGS, Gerber, GM CGS, InterGraph EMS, PTC Pro Engineer, Unigraphics, Varimetrix, etc.

Features of C4toSTL, PDtoSTL, VDtoSTL, and IGtoSTL.

Four output formats are supported: Brock Rooney & Associates STH format, 3D Systems binary STL, Cubital CFL, and VRML.
STH format can be converted to VRML, CFL, or STL.
Typical performance is better than 10000 triangles per minute.
Most parts take less than 5 minutes to process.

These translators can process up to One Million surface patches at once, depending on available memory. There is no limit to the number of triangles which can be generated. Adjacent surfaces are automatically joined to create closed volumes, so CAD surface normal direction does not matter.

User specified corner matching, edge matching, and mesh (chordal deviation) tolerances. Duplicate and twisted surface removal Unsurfaced areas and gaps are filled in. The result is one or more completely closed volumes with complex vertex to vertex matching. Material Volume and Surface area are reported.

User selected layers to process, so multiple parts can reside in the same CAD file. Choice of blanked entity processing in IGtoSTL. Output CPL selection in C4toSTL.

Features of STLtoC4, STLtoPD and STLtoIG

Read any binary or ASCII file, or STH file.
Units conversion and scaling.
User choice of polylines (faster smaller) on surfaces.
Optional normal generation.
When reading .sth files, each volume and any fill triangles can be placed on different layers.

Optional approximationof high degree and / or Rational curves and surfaces as Non-Rational cubic to within a user specified tolerance. This is used when the destination systems doesn't support degrees greater than 3 (or 5 or 7 or 10), or doesn't do Rational curves / surfaces.

COMPLETE output of Trimmed Surface and Solid Models as 144 Trimmed Surfaces or (not PD) Explode into Untrimmed patches which match the Trim boundaries. All surfaces are output as type 114 or 128 (user choice); no nasty type 118, 120, or 122 which cause problems for so many CAD systems.

Support for ALL IGES surfaces up to degree 23, including Trimmed and Offset surfaces, and those composed of composite curves. For DOS-X or Unix, Trimmed surfaces can be exploded into patches which match the trim boundaries within a user specified tolerance (not PD). Optional Patch Reduction, which can often reduce part size to 1/10 the size when complex surfaces are present (DOS-X, Unix only).

Knows about and (where possible) corrects for dozens of "peculiarities" in IGES files from more than 10 major CAD systems. Designed to ignore garbage in the IGES file, and keep going.

Performance:

These Translators can read or write IGES files at a rate of more than 4 Megabytes per minute. This is up to FIFTEEN times faster than alternative translators. It is finally possible to use IGES as a practical sata transfer method. Imagine: Translations that take 5 minutes instead of 1 hour.
